What I love about commission work is that it's the best way
I can give you exactly what you want. My aim as an artist is
to do something for you that will take your breath away...
|
Q: How do we get started? A: It's really EASY. I suggest you look at my existing work - the slideshow of my original paintings on this website is an easy way to see dozens of my pieces. See what appeals to you. If you find one you like, and would like a similar painting in different colors or a different size or shape, you can order EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT. If you have a completely different idea and would like to see it painted in my style... great! Working with you long distance isn't a problem, and if the painting is to be figural and/or resemble you or someone you know, I'll just need a few photos you like, and I'll work from one or a combination.
Q: How long will it take? A: It usually takes about a month from beginning the design to the completion of your painting. |
COMMISSION A PAINTING |
|
A: As mentioned above in 'How do we get started?' commissioned works are essentially priced according to size and degree of content. The following will give you a rough idea of size/price. The dimensions are approximate framed sizes, and the prices include conservation framing done here in my studio. Figure $200 to $300 less if you'd like to handle the framing yourself. Packing and shipping will be figured separately - see 'How will it get to me?'
|
When you've decided on size and content, we'll agree on a contract price. Usually I receive one-third of the price to begin - to do the preliminary drawings and color sketches that you approve before we proceed. With that approval, the second one-third is due.
Your painting will be completed in approximately three weeks to a month, and when it's finished I'll send you detailed photographs for your approval. If there are any changes you'd like to see (within reason), we'll do that now. YOUR SATISFACTION IS GUARANTEED! I'm really easy to work with - and most important, I want you to LOVE the art you get from me.
Upon your approval of the finished painting, the final one-third is due. Packaging and shipping costs are determined by size, and will be added to the final one-third payment. When paid in full, your painting is carefully shipped directly to you!
That's usually how it works, but I'm open to variations. I want to make it EASY for you to get the art you really want.
Q: How will it get to me?
A: Your painting will be shipped from my studio, and will be handled by my partner Ben Sweeney. Everyone who knows his work fondly teases him about it always being so 'heavy-duty'. Almost always a good thing, but especailly so when it comes to shipping art! Ben will meticulously pack and box or crate your painting, and all original work is shipped via FedEx.
Q: What if I don't like it?
A: Your satisfaction is absolutely GUARANTEED. YOU APPROVE the design and color sketches before painting ever begins. YOU APPROVE detailed photographs (or the painting itself if you live close to Tampa Bay!) of the finished painting before completing payment. You have opportunities to ask for changes and I'm really easy to work with. I want you to be happy. I want you to LOVE the art you get from me.
And finally...
What I like best about working on commission is that once we get started, you and I will have communicated enough that I feel like I really do know exactly what you want, and the whole time I'm working, I get to think... "AHA! This is going to be JUST what they want. This is going to be PERFECT!" Pretty sappy I know, but there you are. And as unrealistic as looking for perfection may be, chasing it is what makes me happy.
TESTIMONIALS
"[Working with Marci] is a real treat. Marci always had a good sense of what to portray and what not to portray. She could do that, give you a little bit and let you fill in the rest with your imagination. I wanted a painting that had power, that had mystery about it, without the whole image... she executed the thing and it was perfect... unbelievable. She's easy, not difficult to work with at all - she is very stable and dependable. She is very exacting... it must be perfect. She just won't compromise on the artwork."
- Tom Wilde, Allentown PA - Owns several of Marci's works, commissioned a painting
"Marci is so interested in doing exactly what you want... very attentive to your needs. If I were to commission another painting, it would be through Marci. I love her work."
- Bill and Kathy Morecraft, Wilmington DE - commissioned a painting
"I want every [work] to be a masterpiece... Marci, you've outdone yourself again."
- Walker Inman, Jackson Hole WY - Commissioned bronze and iron interior gates,
commissioned bronze and granite coffee table, artist retained by Mr. Inman to
"always be working on a masterpiece..."
